After selecting the "Wide View" from View->Layout, certain window sizes cause
the status bar to disappear off the bottom of the screen
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select View->Layout->Wide View
2. Start making the window smaller (vertically) an inch or two at a time
Actual Results:
At some point, the status bar will start to disappear off the bottom of screen. As the screen is made smaller, iti will disappear altogether.
Expected Results:
Status bar should continue to be visaible
This seems very reminiscent of bug 217477, except that one was supposedly fixed two years ago in Thunderbird 0.8. We're still seeing this in 1.5.0.7. (I checked both our compiled-from-source version, and the version supplied with the Fedora Core 5 updates)

xref bug 41994, bug 151778.
Reproduced with TB 1.5.0.8/X11, Ubuntu 6.06. Will check this under Windows shortly.

This doesn't happen only with wide view, at least under Window. In the Classic view, once the thread pane has been shrunk to its minimum height, the folder pane can still be shrunk for a while, allowing the status bar to remain visible. But once the folder pane has reached *its* minimum height, the window edge advances over the status bar. What's really happening here is that the message pane never resizes like the folder and thread panes do.
I see this in recent 2b1 and 3a1 builds of TB.
Bug 41994 is (now, at least) this same problem in Seamonkey. I stated there, "I guess the 'expected result' is that the status bar should be the last item hidden when the window is resized." Is that correct? You would prefer a window with no thread pane, no folder pane, no message pane, no toolbars, just a status bar, if the window shrunk that far? If not, then what sort of priority would you suggest for the various components?
OS: Linux → All
Hardware: PC → All
Version: unspecified → Trunk
The problem I originally reported is that it "feels" like the status bar is disappearing, even though there is still room for it.
I'm not really sure how to prioritize among the thread pane, folder pane, message pane, toolbars, and status bar. I'd say that that they should all be visible, albeit small, as long there is is room for all of them to fit. If the window shrinks still further, then I can understand that something has to go. (or deny the window from shrinking that small, but I don't know if that's an option)
OS: All → Linux
Hardware: All → PC
Version: Trunk → unspecified

Thunderbird 2.0.0.12. In wide view the status bar does not appear. In classic and versicle view it is there. If I play with the screen resolution I can make it appear. it does not show at 1024 X 768. It shows if you go up to 1200 X 1084. So obviously this is a window sizing problem. I have the same problem with an old 17 inch CTR at home as I have with a new 22 in wide at the office. My wife's computer that is right next to mine does show the status bar at 1024 X 768. It is a 19 inch LCD screen.

I change title of bug because the issue described is related also to "Classic View" and "Vertical View".
