User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

If you follow a link within a page, the link target is shown right at the top of the browser's rendering area. Similarly, if you use the in-page search, the page is scrolled only until the current match just about appears at the bottom edge. Scrolling a line (or half a line) further would make the element that is supposed to be in focus more visible.

Reproducible: Always
Bug 171237 covers the Find case, so I'm changing this bug to cover the named-anchors case. It's still possible that a single patch will fix both.
Summary: Leave some room when autoscrolling to elements → Leave some room when scrolling to named anchors
really this is a Core bug
Component: General → Document Navigation
Product: Firefox → Core
QA Contact: general → docshell
Note that Opera has this behavior, and in a lot of cases (e.g. Wikipedia) it actually leads to less-pleasing results.
Severity: normal → S3
