this is a trivial request, but could you make "command / control w" close about thunderbird dialog? like firefox, command + a select the version info, and command + c copies into the clipboard, but command + w doesn't close the about thunderbird dialog. I know I'd use command + w each time I logged a tbird bug. I'm using tbird mac os x version 2 beta 1 (20061005)

Currently, the convention seems to be having Ctrl+W for closing windows and Esc for closing dialogs - except that this difference isn't really obvious in many cases (see e.g. bug 306197). At least for Windows I'd WONTFIX this request, since Ctrl+W only works in a few selected cases anyway (the preferred shortcuts being Alt+F4 for windows, Ctrl+F4 for child-windows and additionally Esc for dialogs) and we wouldn't want users to get into a bad habit here... BTW: Have you filed the same bug for Firefox, etc. as well?

on mac os x / FF2.0, command + w closes the window.
I haven't tried ff on the trunk on mac (or windows ff or tb / branch or trunk) yes.

Actually, these dialogs don't even need the OK button, per the policy stated at bug 183419 comment 34; see also cmt 39 at that same bug, which supports this bug's desire for [cmd]+W.

Simon's right that the Windows half is wontfix; the Mac half is a bug, but the bug that it is is bug 335044 ;)
