no hover effect on buttons for URL drop-down, search, search-icon

for both 2.0 Branch and Trunk
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20061005 Minefield/3.0a1

On MS-Windows XP,
with windows desktop color scheme as "Windows Standard"
in "Windows Classic style" theme

A) Following icons on tool bar dont hover
  1. URL drop-down
  2. search
  3. search-icon

B) as well as (4) GO button hover is not much effective.

C) other buttons (back, fwd, refresh, home etc.) rise up on hover.

D) If user hover over non-selected TAB it brightens

I feel on a platform all should have a similar hover effect/appearance for CONSISTENCY REASON.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061005 BonEcho/2.0

This works for me on Linux branch. The issue on trunk is known; I think Gavin was going to file a bug on it.
I wasn't, no. You can't really have a bevel effect while keeping the buttons attached to the textboxes like they are, so I can't even see how you'd fix this. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the bug is about. Can you post a screenshot of how it looks with Linux?
What I see (or I think I see) today on
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20061007 Minefield/3.0a1

with windows classic style (OS settings)

When bring mouse over

Search Icon
- background of search pulldown arrow darkens
(very difficult to distinguish if you dont concentrate)

Search button (looking glass)
- background darkens
(very difficult to distinguish if you dont concentrate)

URL pull down
- background of pulldown arrow darkens
(very difficult to distinguish if you dont concentrate)

go button
- background darkens
(very difficult to distinguish if you dont concentrate)
- Green arrow becomes dark green

My suggestion:-
Make them glow just like the TABs

for other icons (bak, fwd, stop, refresh, home) do the same just make them glow like the TABs

that will make hover effect/appearance CONSISTENT across all control
Attached file demo.zip
this is a demo of above suggestion
Attached file demostart.html
you can use this, if you dont want to unzip above demo.zip

Gavin, is it possible something like the one in demo.zip
Attachment 241607 [details] goes way too far. But I agree that the tab's hover appearance should have been adopted for the Url and Search bar endcaps. It surprises me that nobody came up with this before. Now it's too late.

This has nothing to do with bug 355934.

> This has nothing to do with bug 355934.

Origin of the issue is URL drop-down, search, search-icon and "Tabs don't integrate well in Windows Classic"

and my suggestion is an alternative to of using native controls to integrate well with Windows Classic
I guess this is irrelevant now. If reporter still wants to propose something, it should go through the UX team.
