User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 1.5.0.7 (20060909)

In TBird, when using Print Preview on a long message, both in normal and in in full screen mode, I find that when I change the display percentage, the scroll bar disappears. I have to close the print preview and reopen it to get the scroll bar back.

Furthermore, changing the display percentage doesn't really change anything at first. The print size remains the same. I found it necesary to close TBird and reload it to get the new percentage to take.

A couple of times the scroll bar reappeared on the right margin of the preview page, instead of the right margin of the full window, which is its default position.

Also, on at least one occasion, closing the print preview closed the entire program. I closed the preview by clicking on the "close" button, not the X in the upper right corner.

In addition, when I tried opening an attached EML file, and doing a print preview from that window, the print preview hung altogether. It just spun its wheels with the "preparing" message box open. I finally had to close the attachment.

[Additional info:]
Regarding the problem with the attached EML file, I have done further tests, with the following results:

The attachment wouldn't print at all; the problem was not just with print preview.

The attachment in question was fairly large (33kb), around 11 pages if printed in its native font size. I'm not sure yet if the problem happens with smaller attachments.

If I saved the attachment out as a separate EML file, then opened it, the print functions worked properly. The problems occur when it is opened while it is still attached to the original message.

[still more info:]
The bug involving the preview window not changing display size applies to all print previews, not just previews of attachments. It is necessary to close TBird down entirely, then reload it, to get a change in display size to show properly in the print preview window.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
A: For attachemnts and main messages:
1.In Thunderbird, open an attachment, then hit Print Preview, then change the display percentage. Actual size of print and page count do not change.
2. Close print preview
3. Reopen print preview.

B: EML attachments still embedded in main message
1: open attachment
2 [review]a: open print preview, follow steps as in A above.
2b: or, simply send to printer (Control-P

Actual Results:
A: Print size remains the same. Also lose the scroll bar on the right side of the screen. Necessary to close and reload program to get display size and page count to change.
B: print preview "preparing" window hangs. Print preview never opens. Necessary to save attachment as EML file, then open separately, to be able to use print preview, or to pring.

Expected Results:
Font size and page count should reflect change immediately. Scroll bar should not disappear. Should not have to close Thunderbird to get changes to take effect. EML attachments should be printable while still attached, as PDF attachments are.

Running XP, SP2. IBM A231p Thinkpad.

Bug does not occur in Firefox. Have seen similar bugs reported, but not this exact bug.
I don't see the scaling issue with a trunk build, so one or more these issues should be resolved by Ian's good work in bug 311028.

In general test print problems using a trunk build because new fixes are put there, and are not likely to be seen in (the soon to be released) Thunderbird 2. IMO v1.5 isn't worth reporting print problems against.

In addition:
* search for existing issues (fixed and not fixed) before filing a new bug
* please file one bug per issue
* print issues (both preview and paper) are, or should be, *very* specific. create a good bugzilla search to hit the right bug(s), with search terms like table, header, footer, scale, orientation, font, etc.
