Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 (20060909)
This affects email as well, but for my purposes it only affect news since I view it sorted by thread.
I'm switching to Thunderbird from Forte Agent for my occasional newsgroup reading. In TB I don't have the preview pane open and have it set to open up messages in a new window. Agent has a feature "Next Unread Message In Thread" (ctrl-T) that does what it says, and when the thread is fully read, it closes the message window and goes back to the header list.
In Thunderbird, the only similar features are "Next Unread Message" and "Next Unread Thread", which take me to the next thread/message which could be some other completely different topic that doesn't interest me at all and marks it as read (in case I do want to read that message at a later date).
So Thunderbird should have a keystroke or a toolbar button that allows the user to read all the messages in a thread with one click. Since CTRL-T is already being used, along with F, N, and T, I propose the keystroke be "H", for tHread.
Reproducible: Always

i'm not sure if this bug should be morphed into general enhancements in threaded message navigation or not, but i'd also like to be able to do "Previous Message in Thread" and "Next Message in Thread".

I think that the "Previous Unread Message" and "Next Unread Message" should automatically expand the threads and dive into them. Should we really need separate functions for "Next Unread Message In Thread" (this is already available BTW) and "Previous Unread Message In Thread"?

Hmm, these shortcuts are really working weirdly. "Previous Unread Message" expands and marks the first message in a thread if it is unread. Next Unread Message and Next Unread Message In a Thread both seems to function similarly. I'm kinda lost and confused.
