Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

If one reports a bug against Thunderbird or bugzilla for example, the build identifier is automatically populated with the browser's user agent string. This is bad for two reasons:
1. it's not accurate, but even worse...
2. users often skip fixing the field because they see it's filled in, or don't know any better
3. the bug's product version doesn't get correctly set

Suggested solution - don't populate the field unless it's a browser product. No information is better than bad information

Reproducible: Always
make that, 3 reasons :)
Version: unspecified → 2.20
I suppose this bug is specific to b.m.o, especially because the guided format is a hack for mozilla.org.
Yep, I agree with LpSolit. The shipped version of create-guided is just a sample, it's the bmo one we care about here.

Humbly suggest this is a major bug, as it puts invalid data in bugs - see item 2 of comment 0.

Two example bugs from thunderbird

* bug 355131 - user set ver=1.5, useless browser UA string is the first couple lines in the bug

* bug 355139 - user did not set version, useless browser UA string is first couple lines in the bug

Is this functionality a relic of the suite days (not that suite is a relic) when brower=mail-client?
Severity: normal → major
I've discovered my report is a dup of bug 308943.
However, I don't see that bug 308950 is a fix.
