User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

The backwards-tilde ("∽"), which can be represented as HTML character code by ∽ does not display correctly in every context within Firefox, including, but not limited to, normal page output, View Source, Find, Search Bar, Address Bar, and input and textarea fields within a web form. In some cases where vertical space is limited, use of this character will effectively make all other characters invisible.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use the ∽ character in any context on a Windows machine.
Actual Results:
The character does not obey the normal line-height rules.

Expected Results:
It should maintain the same line-height as all other characters.

Will try to create testcase, though limited info makes this dificult.
Attached file Testcase
This is confirmed on Windows XP running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0. The upper example on the testcase has odd line spacing, while the lower one has the correct line, with no &#8765.

This issues does not exist on Windows Vista with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1a1pre) Gecko/2008071903 Minefield/3.1a1pre.

Ever confirmed: true
This is the same issue as discussed in bug 598900 and its duplicates; see there for more details. In short, it's caused by the metrics of the fallback font that's found for the backwards-tilde character in this example.
