356956 - WebMailCompose uses external updateurl, so does not install on Firefox 1.5 or later

This is similar to bug 341293 and bug 347186, and is to do with the requirement that extensions on Add-ons not use an UpdateURL definition in install.rdf. The rule is enforced for new uploads by bug 281902, but existing extensions can still have them (the case here).

Because the compatibility information in the xpi is 0.8 to 1.4, and the external UpdateURL does not return information that the Extensions Manager finds useful, this extension doesn't actually install in modern (1.5.0.x, 2.0) versions of Firefox. 

I can't find an email for the author, Jed Brown, but I'll leave him a reference for this bug at his contact form.

You can find Jed Brown at mozillazine or via google.  He's a pretty active contributor.

There is nothing about the application that prevents an external updateURL.  Its the policy that any new submissions to AMO, however, do not have one.

The AMO application does indeed prevent an external update URL, and has for most of a year:

Thanks -- I'll see if I can find Jed too.  Stuff that doesn't support Fx1.5 will hopefully be pruned sooner rather than later, also.
