Supernews/Remarq servers do not return message bodies referenced by
MsgID

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Purchase membership of Supernews (!)
2.Set up one of Supernews' news servers on Mozilla e.g. corp.supernews.co.uk
3.Subscribe to any newsgroups and list message headers
4.Select a message for download

Actual Results: A dialog box says "A news (NNTP) error occurred: No such article".

Expected Results: The message body should be displayed in the message pane.

A note of this problem is made in the FAQ for Suck, a newsfeed puller. The FAQ
is down at the moment, but the following is cached at Google:

2. I keep getting "article unavailable" when talking to a SuperNews server, what
do I do?

Answer - Use the -n option. For some reason, Supernews doesn't like it when Suck
requests articles using the MsgId.
I don't have access to corp.supernews.co.uk, but I do to news.supernews.com.
Using Win32 build 2000041305 I was able to authenticate to the server, add a
newsgroup, get headers, and read messages in it without any problem.

I cannot reference a msgID in the browser window, but this seems not to be what
you're reporting as this doesn't return an error.
One for Seth.

I'm getting a supernews account now.

Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
I got a supernews account (on news.supernews.com) but I'm not able to reproduce.

is there a particular article in particular newsgroup that causes this?
My problem is on corp.supernews.co.uk. As khecht19 says, news.supernews.com does
not appear to exhibit the problem.

Any newsgroup and any message exhibits the problem. I was trying recent messages
in rec.arts.int-fiction, among others.

I suspect the correct resolution to this bug may be to lean on Supernews to
support the relevant RFC.

I should mention that I have seen this bug on both Windows and Linux,
Mozilla and Netscape builds.
thanks to phil, I have a way of reproducing this now.

working on a fix...
ok, I got a fix. rfc 977 says you can ask for article by message id or by
article number, once you've done a group command.

currently mozilla *always* asks for an article by message id. it *never* asks
by article number.

I'm testing my fix out, and cleaning up some cruft in the code. I hope to check
in tomorrow morning.

this fix will make it into m16.

fix checked in.

note, that until we have a nntp connection cache, we'll be doing a group command
for every article we retrieve.

bienvenu is working on the nntp cache, adding him to the cc list.

thanks again to phil@leisure-finance.co.uk for helping me reproduce this.

This should be fixed.
Since I cannot access corp.supernews.co.uk -- Phil, can you help us for
