Are you downloading from addons.mozilla.org? In that case try downloading from [http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.3/] instead. You can verify the downloaded *.xpi by comparing with the checksums listed in the MD5SUMS or SHA1SUMS file next to the downloads.
Checked MD5SUMS of file and it was different, so downloaded from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.3/ and now works ok.
Not sure what happened but download from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ failed to download correct file. I have tried again from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ and it was correct.
