I'm using Firefox 2.0 RC3. After trying out IE7, I thought it was a good idea to save on toolbar space and give more to browsing space. Therefore I request an enhancement that Firefox 2.0 be released with the Personal Toolbar hidden and the main toolbar set to "Small icons".

You can set your browser in the desired configuration. But not everyone agrees that this should be the default.
WONTFIX ?

Not to mention that the release is tomorrow, and code freeze was several weeks ago. As summarized, this bug won't be fixed, so I suggest you resummarize it :)

Ok, changed the summary so that it doesn't say 2.0 release anymore. Thanks Gavin!
Actually my configuration is to show the Personal Toolbar because I use it often, but given that most people wont, it would make a good marketing for Firefox to say that it gives the most browsing space compared to other browsers. It used to be that Firefox did give the most browsing real estate to users, but now other browsers (particularly Opera and IE) have caught up and already give more space than Firefox.
Summary: More real estate for 2.0 release → Less space for toolbars, more for the tabbrowser.

smaller icons are generally harder to click effectively, and with ever-increasing pixel densities, they are proportionally smaller than they used to be. We've put a lot of effort into balancing space used against useful chrome area, and we've kept the bookmark toolbar around as a result.
Anyway, this optimizes too far for space and doesn't really solve anything for normal users, so WONTFIX.
