Our sidebar partner, www.consors.de, wants to write a customize applet for their
sidebar panel. They are having trouble getting it to work.
Their developer, Christian Gradl <gradl@ebox.de>, writes:

Bugzilla isn't the place for reporting problems or asking questions about
Netscape 6. Try one of the latest builds of Mozilla and see if the problem is
reproducable there. If the problem still exists then post a more detailed report
of the problem preferably with a testcase to back up your point. If the problem
is Netscape 6 specific then use the Netscape 6 feedback center (Help | Feedback
Center from within Netscape 6)

In light of the facts that Christian also seemed to be using an M14 build, and
that they're a sidebar partner, and that amasri was just reporting what
Christian emailed (and thus has no more information about the problem than what
was said), I'm gonna reopen this for now as I assume the devs will want to see this.

Clayton, CRoberts recommended reassigning this to you, because it's
java applet related.

Hi Jennifer,
Andrew reports to Chris Karnaze whom I'll cc. Chris, in turn, reports to me.
So much for reporting structure! I'm off line so I can't read the bug from
here, but one comment below sets off a
warning bell - your use of the word applet. Netscape isn't doing any work on
Java or Java applets, Sun has taken
on all that work and has a fairly big team active in Mozilla to do just that.
Right now Java (and therefore any
applets at all) works only on the Windows platforms and not on Linux, Solaris
or Mac. If the applet requires
security services we're dead in the water even on Windows.
If the use of 'applet' was unintentional, please get back to us. If you need
further info on Java, an excellent
contact at Sun is George Drapeau <george.drapeau@eng.sun.com>

Tried the URL
http://www.consors.de/Applet/msmf2.html
on WinNT v4.0 with SP5 on mozilla build 06/13/2000
using Latest plugin by Stanley (not sure if this passed down to Netscape)
Plugin version reads " 1.3.0-netscape6-pr2" .
The applets itself does load correctly on the main page.
A couple of questions
What is the intended behaviour? when u click on 'GO' what is supposed to
happen.
When we say sidebar applet, how can we add this applet onto the sidebar?
Currently on IE5 if I bring up this URL and click on 'GO' with 'WKN' in the Text
box, it tries to load http://stage.consors.de/mysidebar/index.php3
and it is not able to load this Page.
On the mozilla build
applets loads correctly
Click on 'Go'
It brings up a popup box titled 'Unknown file type'
"You are about to download a file of type application/x-httpd-php3.
File is unrecognized by mozilla. You can save it or open it with another
application"
I tried adding php3 mime type, but I do not think that screen is working
currently.
Is there any other way I can add the mime type handle.
(maybe update some file).

I tried this with Netscape 20000710:
The problem seems to be with the php3 extension. This appears to be a server
problem. See http://www.php.net/FAQ.php#6.8 for help configuring your server to
correctly generate php3 files.

May I close the bug as INVALID, then? Linda, comments?

Please keep this bug open a while longer until we have confirmation from ConSors
that their panel is completely functional.

No problem, Linda; I'll keep it open. Also, putting M18 as the target milestone
to have this resolved; that seems like a reasonable time-frame.

Allan and I observed that the consors URL in this bug once worked, but we now
get a page not found condition.
Christian Gradl of ebox/consors is investigating.
This bug should actually be Open, but it appears to be a problem in tab source
code, at the moment.
