Ouch.
I can no longer load any build of Mozilla, including NS6 PR1. I have
absolutely *no clue* what happened. I left my computer on with a couple of IE
windows and 3 Mozilla windows open for about an hour, untouched. I came back
and had gotten a GPF in what I believe was NECKO.dll When clicking Close on
the GPF, two of the three browser windows closed. When I tried to restore
(bring back to focus) the other one and start using it, I believe it froze.
Upon trying to restart Mozilla, the splash screen appears and then...that's it.
It just appears, and sits there. Ctrl+alt+del after about 20 seconds reveals
that the application is Not Responding. None of the builds/NSPr1 that I have
on my computer load; each does the same thing. Redownloading has not helped,
nor has a restart/cold boot.
This is in almost all likelihood specific to my computer in some way or
another, but I sure as hell hope not, or, to put it bluntly, I'm screwed.
On second thought, since I have Win2k dualbooted, I'll try it on that OS now
and report here how it goes. Hope it works . . .

I was submitting this just as you were closing this (mid-air collision).
For future reference (if you didn't know this), the following is handy to know.
I don't have an explanation for what is causing you a problem, but the following
steps will (or should) clean up as if mozilla had never been installed:
1) delete the directory in which you installed mozilla (i.e., c:\program
files\netscape\netscape 6 for pr1, or wherever else you put mozilla).
2) delete c:\windows\mozregistry.dat (assuming c:\windows is the name of the
home directory for win98 on your box).
3) move all the profiles in .\Users50 to a temporary directory (e.g.
c:\temp\old_prof) *or* just delete the lot of them. [I suggest moving them
just so that you have a copy of stuff you want to recover, and perhaps if
there are any clues as to why you can't start, that are contained in the
profiles].

hey there, thanks for the tips. I didn't know about the mozregistry.dat file,
so that could be helpful in the future. Then again, maybe I'll just let my bugs
fix themselves as this one did :-) Thanks again.
On an entirely unrelated sidenote (I don't want to file this as a bug report
since it isn't a bug), did we suddenly just change to win32 scrollbars for the
win32 builds? This is great! Who checked this in? Though XP is still being
used in various places (when prefs screen gets too small, for example).
2000041308 made a lot of great improvements, esp. with selection.

Um, no. Haven't switched off the gfx scrollbars. [However, it still remains
possible to enable native scrollbars by prefs (the debug panel in the pref
dialog)]. It sounds like your prefs.js got stomped (if you didn't do this
intentionally).
