The shortcuts ctrl-K and ctrl-J normally take one to the Searchbar. Precondition for this behaviour is that the Searchbar is showm and not disabled. No problem with that. But now the change I noticed since I upgraded from Fx 1.5.0.7 to Fx 2.0 recently. When one chose to deactivate the Searchbar by removing it from the Navigation Toolbar or by completely deactivating the Navigation Toolbar itself, Fx 1.5 would have popped up a Search Dialog Box with all options also present in the Searchbar, whereas Fx 2.0 takes one to "http://www.google.de/firefox" anyway without any options.
I really like the Navigation bar completely disabled and then switch to Fullscreen Mode, because that is my way to get a _REAL_ fullscreen view of my visitied website. But now with the new behaviour of ctrl-K respectively ctrl-J it really reduces the useability of Fx Search Plugins since, in my case, I'd have to hit F11 to leave Fullscreen then reactivate the Searchbar respectivly the Navigation Toolbar and finally I could hit ctrl-K to get to the Searchbar and use its options. And when my search results are finally shown I would still have to deactivate the Navigation Toolbar and hit F11 to get back to my "real Fullscreen" view. Actually now I am faster using ctrl-L (which indeed pops up a Dialog Box) and URL-completion turned on and entering the search page manually, which takes me back to pre-Firebird times!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.a Deactivate the Navigation Toolbar (only works when the Searchbar is also located in the Navigation Toolbar)
1.b remove the Searchbar by costomizing the Toolbars.
2. hit CTRL-K
3. Watch yourself being taken to http://www.google.de/firefox
Actual Results:
One is taken to http://www.google.de/firefox
Expected Results:
I'd have expected the Search dialog box to pop up as it used to be in <2.0
Actually I thought it has something to do with a default setting, so I tried to set 'browser.search.defaultenginename' to an empty string. But that didn't change anything.
Since I consider the useability of the builtin SearchEngine-Plugins and the relation to its respective keyboard shortcut in _EVERY_ situation a major feature, I also consider this a major bug ;).
With best
