User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0

Memory usage rises sharply due to Flash content. The level of usage was not seen before in Firefox 1.5. I am using Adobe Flash player 9.

The memory consumption is more than that of Internet Explorer 7 and Opera 9.

For example; I have loaded Company of Heroes website. (http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/) Memory usage in Opera 9 after complete loading was 68 MB; IE 7 consumed 70 MB and Firefox 2 consumed 78 MB.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Goto any Flash heavy website ( eg: Company of Heroes website )
2. While loading, see the rise of memory usage in Task Manager of Windows.
3. Compare the memory usage with that of Internet Explorer 7 and Opera 9.

Actual Results:
High memory usage. Should have been lower.

Expected Results:
Lower memory usage.

All browsers have been tested with the same steps. I have copied the link in clipboard and pasted the link in fresh window of the browsers.

> similar to bug 342810 ?

could be similar, but this should not be duped to bug 342810, which started with threadmanager checkin in v1.9 Gecko.

if this is a dup, it's more likely to be bug 289198 which originates in gecko 1.7

Do you still see the problem with FF 2.0 final?
What version flash, using http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/
please install flashblock in firefox. what is memory in FF before allowing the flash image to run, and what is the memory after?

supplied URL certainly not critical and not a match to any of the nasty flash bugs. And a 8MB difference between IE and FF could be almost anything. (We need one more flash bug like we need a hole in the head.)
Severity: critical → normal
Tomal, can you supply the information using the procedure above? This will help determine if the amount of memory you are talking about is within acceptable norms.

Note, my "hole in the head" comment was not directed at you, just tongue in check humor about the numerous flash bugs still open.
The only problem reported is the memory difference on initial load, but other knowledgeable people in other bugs have noted IE and mozilla have different memory usage profiles. Original report is 8MB which I don't think is that great, and on w2k with flash r9,0,45 the difference is now 6MB.

So closing invalid. Also, No response from reporter.
