User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 I suggest an option to sort the autocomplete list alphabetically. This would result in behaviour similar to the old IExplorer. When I typed "moz" there, the offered list would be: - mozilla.com/ - mozilla.com/firefox - mozilla.com/firefox/help - mozilla.com/thunderbird - mozilla.com/thunderbird/help - .... Currently (ver. 2.0), it is always sorted according to the most visited pages, with no option to change this behavior. In conjuction with the preference "browser.urlbar.autoFill = true" from "about:config", this offered the user a way to type only the first letters of each part of the address and let the browser's location bar autocomplete the rest of the next part for him only. Reproducible: Always

Couldn't find a dupe, so confirming. There was once an extension with this function , Autocomplete Manager, but it doesn't function in Firefox 2.0. Lockups and a weird looking location bar. But maybe there's another extension that I overlooked.

Bug 370117 is tangentially related to this one. In normal text boxes, the auto-fill history IS sorted alphabetically, and in a case sensitive manner. If the code already exists to track URL use by frequency, it could be used for the textbox auto-fill history as well. I propose some intrepid and competent soul create the option requested above, but make it control not only the address bar, but all auto-fill drop down lists. Let us choose whether we want all such dialogs sorted by frequency of use or alphabetical order.

It is just slower than the default Firefox autocomplete :)
