I set up a new squid that authenticates via NTLM. If I set the proxy options manually, NTLM auth works like a charm. As soon as I use the auto-detect feature or the automatic proxy-config url however, I am prompted to enter a password for my wpad server.
I also tested this using IE and it works.
When the wpad.dat resides on my local disk (and doesn't have to be loaded from the network) it works again. It seems firefox wants to authenticate with the proxy because it retrieves the wpad.dat using HTTP and since it thinks it has to use the proxy to do so it prompts for the squid authentification dialogue.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
-
Actual Results:
An unnecessary authentification dialogue pops up.
Expected Results:
No authentification dialogue should appear since auth is done via NTLM.

Let me rephrase that: I am NOT prompted to enter a password for my wpad server - it's an auth-dialogue from my squid that asks me to enter my proxy-password (the backup I set up in case somebody uses a browser that is incapable of doing NTLM auth).
