360825 - Cannot send emails

Thunderbird cannot send emails over SMTP servers at all.

i am using OS X 10.4.8 and TB 1.5.0.8

my server settings are correct and i am able to send and receive emails on 2 other email clients with identical settings on the same computer... I have no firewall enabled and no antivirus running... no extensions and no themes are enabled as well... I have turned off auto-update and this also has not helped at all... when sending any email it hangs there and says that it is "connected to SMTP server" and then after several minutes comes up with an error saying that the SMTP server is unavailable or refusing connections. There is only one account set up in TB so duplicate SMTP's is not an issue. I have no spam filtering on incoming or outgoing email. This is a serious issue because TB's major function as an email client is to both SEND and RECEIVE email, its inability to SEND email makes it a half crippled application that serves no purpose to the end user. The password and username are both set correctly as well as the port and authentication method. This is not an issue with settings, it is an issue with the  build as a whole. If you check the MozillaZine forums you will find a ton of users who are experiencing the same exact issue as I. This definitly needs to be addressed quickly as it could result in TB losing users to the competition.
