User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de-DE; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061026 BonEcho/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de-DE; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061026 BonEcho/2.0 When I attach a file with "special characters" (eg. Umlauts like הצ) in the filename, Outlook 2003 displays an attachment called "Attachment.dat", instead of the original filename. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Attach a file which has a Umlaut in the filename, eg. "Flge bzw. Bahnfahrten.xls" Actual Results: In Outlook 2003, an attachment called "Attachment.dat" or "ATT817618.xls" is displayed. Expected Results: An attachment with the real filename should be displayed, ie. "Flge bzw. Bahnfahrten.xls" in the example given. I suppose this issue is because of the "strange" encoding of the filename (which might be absolutely standard compliant). When I have a look at the "source" of the message sent, I see: --------------020802050801080105070200 Content-Type: application/vnd.ms-excel; name*0*=ISO-8859-15''%46%6C%FC%67%65%20%62%7A%77%2E%20%42%61%68%6E%66%61; name*1*=%68%72%74%65%6E%2E%78%6C%73 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: inline; filename*0*=ISO-8859-15''%46%6C%FC%67%65%20%62%7A%77%2E%20%42%61%68%6E%66; filename*1*=%61%68%72%74%65%6E%2E%78%6C%73 It seems, that Tb *completely* "hex-encoded" the filename. Again, this might be standards compliant, but it breaks atleast ("my") Outlook 2003. When I send the same attachment with Gmail, I see the correct filename and in the source:: ------=_Part_56975_27570609.1163632747455 Content-Type: application/vnd.ms-excel; name="=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Fl=FCge_bzw._Bahnfahrten.xls?=" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 X-Attachment-Id: f_eukct4o6 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Fl=FCge_bzw._Bahnfahrten.xls?=" Once more: I'm NOT saying that Thunderbird is doing something wrong (I don't know that, to be honest); I'm saying that what Tb is doing is causing problems and that there's "room for improvement". I'm using a self-built Thunderbird 1.5.0.8 on Gentoo Linux (using the Gentoo ebuild).
A variant of bug 309566 perhaps?
(In reply to comment #1) > A variant of bug 309566 perhaps? > No, not a "variant", a clear dupe ;) Sorry about spamming. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 309566 ***
