When there's no location bar Ctrl-L brings up the "Open Location..." dialog, in which a default of the current location makes no sense. The site in the title bar is supposed to tell you where you are in this case, and we've got a bug on not allowing the location bar to be suppressed ever. I think this is WFM or INVALID but I'll let one of the UI gurus make that decision.

current location makes sense for several reasons:
- anti-phishing
- see more below

supposed to maybe. It hardly ever does though.
plus when you have the address automatically selected (as usual) there's no extra action needed

That might be a good idea. On the other hand for a presentation i'd like to have a real full screen option.
I think the exact same Navigation Bar should appear as a dialog on ctrl-L when the bar is not visible

Confirming.
I think the last paragraph of comment #2 describes a good solution; there also were a few bugs requesting that in Mozilla Suite (some wfm, some something else).
It may also be decided that tab tooltip fulfills a part of this, but only a part, unless you can copy from it.
Moving to General component, because it's not a bug of Navigation bar itself.
