User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 I move to a folder, say "Comp". I have various read and unread mails there. As the list on the right shows, I see that an entry disappears. I find it marked as junk and moved to the junk directory. There is no explanation for this choice (other mails from the same sender are untouched). This has been going on ever since the junk mail filters were added; I gave up and turned them off, and recently tried again. Reproducible: Sometimes This is unrelated or not to the "marked as spam" problem, where I over and over again read mail from a reputable sender and get "Thunderbird thinks this is spam" -- I don't want to see this every time! IT'S NOT SPAM! I use default theme (I think!). It would be VERY NICE if you could mark or separate mail from people in your address book! WHY ISN'T THIS FEATURE THERE? Either as a one-time filter, or maybe by using colors -- I'd love to see mail from people in my address book in a different color on the list. (NOT THE MAIL ITSELF of course.)
Well, I guess what happens is the junk mail filter makes it's analysis when you enter the folder (as it should). Which version are you using? At least int 2.0 pre builds you can choose in the account settings "Do not mark mail as junk if the sender is in my - Personal Address book". (And you do realize the filter is learning, so you should mark as not spam if it's not, but that only works if the content is similar I guess.)
Presumably, the message that gets junked had been moved to that folder (not "directory") by a filter. The way that junk controls work in 1.5, messages that are filtered do not get checked for junk until you open the folder. In 2.0, the messages will get moved to the folder, then immediately checked for junk; this won't change whether the message is marked as junk, just when. If you're seeing an old message (read or unread, but not "new") getting junked, that's a different situation -- see bug 211826. > It would be VERY NICE if you could mark or separate mail from people in your > address book! WHY ISN'T THIS FEATURE THERE? First of all: one issue per bug, please. Second: stop shouting. The feature you're asking for is in place. I think. It's hard to tell, because "mark or separate mail from people in your address book" is unclear. Are you using filtering or not? Your report implies that you do. The criterion "is in my address book" exists. If you're filtering, you can add an action to the filters to set the Junk Status to "Not Junk." You can also apply labels (which translate into colors) in a filter, based on your address book or whatever criteria you're using. In 2.0, labels are replaced by tags, with the advantage of an unlimited number of tags instead of only five labels. If you meant, "why can't I keep messages from people in my address book from getting junked?": The junk mail controls *do* allow whitelisting on your Address Book. (Actually, only one address book, which is unfortunate, but the feature is in place.) Bug 198961 requests that filtered messages do not get checked for junk, period.
Summary: changing to a directory sometimes causes arbitrary message to be labled as junk and moved to junk or trash folder. → changing to a folder sometimes causes arbitrary message to be labled as junk and moved to junk or trash folder.
Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies? (1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is 2.0.0.16)
