In our corporation there is a webpage which gives the new techno updates, clicking on which will give the application/octet-stream kind of file, which IE and FF both as to open or save, open is able to open the stream in IE but open dont work here. Rather asks for an application to handle this.
Reproducible: Always

The MIME-type application-octet-stream can not contain any data to be displayed on the screen ; that webpage should use text/html or text/plain. Otherwise it's just a binary bloc of data (an application that you download for instance), and FF has no option but to offer to save it, since it doesn't know what to do with it.
The behavior of IE is agaisnt the standard actually.
Please ask your webmaster to correct this, it's an error in their configuration. I believe that Apache uses the application/octet-stream MIME-type as their default.
