Stating from FF-1.5 , FF has a Backup - auto Restore system for Bookmarks only. But still there are some important files that are needed to be backup.

Like 'localstore.rdf ' : many users already has faced this problem : toolbar customization has lost after restart or crash. if FF provides a Backup-auto Restore system for localstore.rdf just like bookmarks.bak or  bookmarkbackups then an end user doesn't have to face any difficulty as FF itself takes care of ''localstore.rdf ' corruption

other files are :
key3.db 
signons.txt
( I think password files (key3.db and signons.txt ) are more important than bookmarks.html or localstore.rdf )

My suggestion is to implement a common backup-restore system for these files which are much important as much as bookmarks.html.

if you think about the size of localstore.rdf  , it is < 100 kb ( in my profile it is 57kb )
signons.txt+key3.db < 50kb
so backing up 2 or 3 copies of these files ( in the same way for bookmarks ) will not take much space in hard disk but it will curb the negative effect of abrupt corruption of these files

Sander Hartveld has asked for import-export option for password file. Import-export is not same as Automatic backup - automatic restore ( just like bookmarks.html file ). Import - export is an manual process like importing - exporting bookmarks files or address book in TB. It doesn't have any effect on automatic fix the negative effect of file corruption.
