FF2.0 -> FF2.0.0.1 updates on Vista don't seem to work. In this case, the bits in the FF2.0.0.1 update are signed.

STR:
1. Get a 2.0 build and edit the release channel in the channel-prefs.js file to "betatest." You may have to take that file and place it in the desktop before editing, as it won't allow you to edit if it's inside the installation folder.
2. Check for updates and apply them.

Expected: You should be updated from 2.0 to 2.0.0.1RC1 and files such as firefox.exe and updater.exe should be signed.

Actual: Update seems to be downloaded, but it is not applied after you restart.

This works fine on WinXP.

Another test is to get the current 2.0.0.1RC1 and edit the test channel to "betatest" and check for updates. You should be presented with a 2.0.0.1nightly build (unsigned bits). This doesn't work on Vista either, but it works on XP.

active-update.xml file from failed update attempt of 2.0 -> 2.0.0.1

Not sure what build or dev can get out of this, but I have attached the last-update.xml file from one of my failed update attemps.

is this not a dup of Bug# 351949 ?

They are definitely related and even most likely dups, but let's wait until we find out more about this problem before marking anything a dup.

This bug was filed during final release testing and it's critical that the right folks focus on the problem with 2.0 -> 2.0.0.1 asap... and hopefully any fix found will also fix the nightly updates others have noted in bug 351949.

In any case, I don't think disabling UAC should be the "fix" for this problem... so let's see what the devs have to say?

Seth? Rob Strong? Doub T? Any ideas?
Would be helpful if folks reporting their results would include which Vista build they are running. I am downloading an updated build right now.

I am encountering this bug on build 5600 (RC1). In the Error Console I get this message:

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.remove]"  nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)"  location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsUpdateService.js :: cleanUpUpdatesDir :: line 358"  data: no]
