No such problem at all here. Does it always happen on a certain page?
Have you also tried a new profile and a reinstall in a new empty folder?

Further try to give us a talkback id. How to fetch it you can read here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback

Now i've uninstalled Firefox including erasing "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\", rebooted the computer, and then again installed Firefox. Same problem still exist. :-(
Maybe now it takes Firefox around 15 seconds to figure out that it will die
with any response. What shall i try next?

You don't want to read this, but there is not talkback id in the log file (and yes, agent is on!).
There's one more detail to be reported. When i start Firefox, there is a dialog window asking me if i want to a) using existing session or b) start a new one.
If:
a) The browser dies immediately.
b) The browser dies after cirka 10 seconds.
If i'm keeping Firefox busy by clicking on links, it's alive for 30 seconds... ;-)

Thats the session restore feature. What you should do first is starting Firefox in Safe Mode. In this case no Addon is loaded. If this doesn't help create a new profile with "firefox.exe -p". Does Firefox run with the new profile? If yes, make a backup of your origin profile and try to remove files step by step until its working. If this profile doesn't contain private data you can also mail it to me and I will have a look at it.

None of your suggestions did work out. No change in behaviour at all.
I discovered the other day that i have a really old copy of Firebird 0.6 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6) installed. There's no uninstall option with this, so i don't know how to get rid of files in other directories that casues conflicts.
Firebird is installed in another catalog apart from the troubling new Firefox, though.

Firebird is now removed. No change. This is a real problem, what can i do? Is there earlier stable versions of Firefox to use?

I have a similar problem. Today I have installed a slovenian version of Firefox 2.0 on a new machine that had Firefox 1.0 (maybe even RC) installed. I didn't unistall, I just installed over the old version. I have also copied the profile from Mozilla 1.6 (backup made with MozBackup).
When I run Firefox fr the first time nothing happened. I opened task manager and run it again. I can see the process starts and then disappears in less than a second. No window is shown.
I have restarted my computer, uninstalled 2.0, reinstalled it, deleted all the profiles, tried with installing 1.5, uninstalling, deleting just some files in the profiles. None of these things helped, the process still disappears.
I have also tried running in -profilemanager and in -safe-mode, but it doesn't help.
By examining the profile folders (and deleting files) I have noticed, that four files are created during the time that Firefox process is in memory (I think these are prefs.js, localstore.rdf, bookmarks.htm, mimetypes.rdf). Prefs.js only contains a comment at the beginning of the file.
For today I have gave up trying, I hope I have given any useful additional information to the bug.

Peter, the profile you have sent me still works for me. No silent shutdown after use of a couple of minutes. It has to be an issue on your computer. Could you create a new windows user and test Firefox under this identity? Perhaps something with your user profile under windows is wrong.

Just another idea. Could you start Windows XP in protected mode? We should have as less as possible programs running for the test. Does Firefox start in this way?

Hey! THAT actually worked! Hm, but where's the conflict one might ask.
Is there any well known software problems regarding this?

Seems that another application or system service prevents the start of Firefox. Do you have any security software running on your computer? Try to shutdown as much as possible running applications step by step and try to start Firefox between. Have also a deeper look into your tray area! You can also hold your shift-key after you signed on in windows. This will prevent the loading of all autostart programs. My guess is that this is caused by your Firewall.

Got no security app running, and the firewall is external. I've tried to shut down as many processes as possible, but no result yet. But i will keep on finding the conflicting software, since there must be one...
I will try the shift-key feature right away, and also check out the tray area.
I'll be back asap! :-)
