When I try to do a quick find, it uses the same case-sensitivity setting that I used with the full find tool bar. For instance, if I performed a search using Ctrl+F and checked the case-sensitive box, then later perform a quick search using /, it says (case-sensitive) and does a case-sensitive search. Strangely however, there is no way to enable or disable case-sensitivity using the quick find tool bar. I have to press Ctrl+F, disable it, and then resume my search. Obvious options: - The quick find tool bar should always be case-insensitive - The quick find tool bar should show a check box to enable/disable case sensitivity - Pressing / should show the full find tool bar
Which build are you reporting this bug against?
Firefox 2.0 release. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/2006101023 Firefox/2.0 The text in the FAYT bar actually says "(Case sensitive)" not "(case-sensitive)" as I suggested in my initial report. The issue's definitely there tho, it reduces to: - Press Ctrl+F and tick the "Match case" box on the find bar to enable it - Close the find bar - Press / and start typing
Bug 340747 was closed as invalid, since bug 340849 was fixed, but the behavior was then changed several times in various bugs (bugs in the dep list of bug 340849, mostly). Bug 340747 comment 3 and bug 340747 comment 5 agree with you.
Thanks for the info Gavin. This is why Bugzilla should search all bugs (instead of open bugs) by default! Bug 340849 mentions the accessibility.typeaheadfind.casesensitive preference, but for some reason toggling the "Match case" checkbox on the full find (Ctrl+F) bar also toggles this.
I'm using 2.0.0.2 Firefox and "Edit/Find in this page" seems to be case-sensitive no matter what the checkbox setting is. Same behavior in previous version (2.0.0.0?).
