Right now, after you've added a few engines to your search box, you'll be left with a cluttered list because it is not alphabetized automatically. I think it is important that the list be alphabetized so that one can more easily find the desired engine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Mycroft and add a few engines.
2. Click on the search box dropdown list.

Actual Results:  
A list by date added.

Expected Results:  
An ordered list
Is the opposite of Bug 318126.
That's why you can move them up and down in the list (select 'manage search engines' in the popup). New ones are added at the end. Note that not everyone wants an alphabetized list ...
Ordering alphabetically isn't likely to be what most people want. You can already do it manually, and it should be fairly easy to write an extension that provided a "alphabetize" button.
