The definition of the TB/Addressbook includes the item <category>, 
http://lxr.mozilla.org/mailnews/source/mailnews/addrbook/src/nsAddressBook.cpp#119 
but it's not displayed at UI level (not with summary pane nor with the card-display).

Expected Results:  
The category item with "display, sort & searching" feature would dramatically improve the usage of the TB/Addressbook.

With a modified extension (AddMoreColsforAddressbook) it's possible to enable the <category> item for display & sorting by column, but not for searching.

Now the version 0.4.1 can also search for "Category", see it at
http://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html

Thanks @Magnus, and sorry for the duplicate. I failed to search back almost two full decades when looking for such basic functionality :)
