For QuickSearches, buglist.cgi should have a small form above the search results showing my search and letting me refine it (similar to Google). Next to the form, there should be a tiny link to a page that describes the QuickSearch syntax (such as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=quicksearch.html or http://www.squarefree.com/bugzilla/quicksearch-help.html). That way, if a newbie discovers QuickSearch through the header/footer, they'll be able to figure out how to use it.

This is the perfect addition to Bug 528962 - improve bugzilla quicksearch summary on results page (hard to parse, takes up too much space). In Bug 528962, I proposed the following as a simple summary (more advanced solutions welcome, but unlikely *sigh*), and we'll just have to add the box and a button: Quicksearch for: [My search words] [Find] *Search fields:* product, component, summary, whiteboard *Status:* REOPENED, NEW, ASSIGNED, UNCONFIRMED

As of 4.0 Bugzilla preserves your QS in the header and footer box, which has a help link next to it.
