User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 "Clear Private Data" sometimes appear upon startup As specified in Bug 314755 related to Firefox 1.5 I frequently experience that the "Clear Private Data" windows is displayed upon starting Firefox 2.0. In Tools - Options - Privacy I have "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" and "Ask me before clearing private data" checked. It is (mostly if not always) also displayed when exiting Firefox, but sometimes (appear to be somewhat random - at leats I have failed to find the common denominator) also appears when STARTING Firefox. I suspect that it may have something to do with me sometimes choosing Cancel or X rather that the "Clear Private Data Now" button... Is there a flag somewhere that is reset when clicking "Clear Private Data Now" - a flag that isn't reset when just hitting the X to close the Window...? Anyway it doesn't seem to be constant - at least not in the same "computer session" (without restarting the computer in between starting and exiting Firefox). I'm unsure whether the box sometimes don't display when exiting Firefox - and then displays when starting, but I'm pretty sure it has happened both when exiting and starting Firefox. In the Firefox 1.5 release notes as well as in the Bug 314755 description it says that it might have something to do with the Adblock extension and that you should ensure that the latest version is installed. I have Adblock Plus installed in it latest version. A list of the extensions I have installed: Application: Firefox 2.0.0.1 (2006120418) Operating System: WINNT (x86-msvc) - Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.3.0.4 - Adblock Plus 0.7.2.4 - Auto Copy 0.6.4 - CuteMenus - Crystal SVG 1.8.2.1 - DOM Inspector 1.8.1.1 - Download Manager Tweak 0.7.2 - Extension List Dumper 1.7.1 - FireFTP 0.94.6 - Gmail Manager 0.5.3 - Gmail Space 0.5.3 - Image Zoom 0.2.7 - PDF Download 0.7.8 - Tab Mix Plus 0.3.5.2 - Talkback 2.0.0.1 - URL Flipper 2.0.1 I didn't find this bug in Bugzilla pertaining to Firefox 2.0, hence this new bug report. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Unable to find excact steps to reproduce the error - but it happens often. Sorry :-/ Actual Results: "Clear Private Data" sometimes displays when starting Firefox. Expected Results: Should only show when exiting Firefox. Using the Qute 3.2.2 theme.

If the "Clear Private Data" window is displayed upon starting Firefox and I close Firefox normally and then start it again - then the "Clear Private Data" Windows doesn't seem to be displayed again (until the computer has been restarted). It always seems to display the Windows the first time starting Firefox after having (re)started the computer... If the "Clear Private Data" window is displayed upon starting Firefox and I close Firefox abnormally (fx. due to a crash or by killing the firefox.exe process using Task Manager) and then start Firefox again - then "Clear Private Data" IS once again displayed. It doesn't seem to matter if I choose to clear the private data or just hit Cancel before closing Firefox abnormally. This may be because Firefox doesn't set some sort of status-bit about whether to display the "Clear Private Data" window until Firefox closes - if Firefox is forcible closed (killed), then this bit isn't set...is my guess (?). But what makes the Window display when starting Firefox in the first place I don't know. I have had this problem evre since upgrading from Firefox 1.5.x (most extensions were also installed when performing the upgrade, but some were initially disabled).
Confirming. I have been seeing this bug during my testing of the 2003 and 1.5.0.10 candidate builds. Doesn't make much sense to have it launch upon startup. I have seen it on the Mac too, changing Hardware and OS to All. Unlike the reporter, I am seeing it with a new profile that has no extensions installed.

I see this on trunk, pretty much all the time.
Summary: "Clear Private Data" sometimes appear upon startup (Firefox 2.0) → "Clear Private Data" sometimes appear upon startup
Version: 2.0 Branch → Trunk
Yep, my bug 366461 is related to this.
The clear private data dialog appears on startup if you have the "clear on shutdown" pref set, and clearing the data on shutdown failed for some reason (e.g. you crashed or otherwise shut down unexpectedly). That's expected behavior. Given that, what's the bug here? The summary isn't very explanatory and comment 1 is confusing.
I no longer see this and it could well be that what was going on here in comment 5. Closing out as incomplete, if people have anything further to add then we can reopen this.
