Details

Some time in the last couple of months, the "aggressive notify" option stopped working for me on Ubuntu Edgy (6.10). When I'm in a different desktop (or on the same desktop, but with a different application focused), and someone messages me, the message appears in the Chatzilla window, and its tab gets highlighted with red text, but Ubuntu doesn't start flashing the Chatzilla window button in the GNOME panel.

I've tested on Chatzilla versions 0.9.75 and 0.9.77, and I see the same behavior in both versions, so maybe this is a Ubuntu/GNOME problem. But gaim notifications are still working. I have checked to make sure Preferences > Global Settings > Global > Aggressive Notify is checked; it is.
This is not our fault. I fixed a bug in the GTK2 nsWindow implementation because it annoyed the hell out of me as well, if you run ChatZilla on a newer (trunk) version of SeaMonkey or Firefox or XULRunner or Flock or... something, it should work. If it doesn't, please file a bug with the widget bits and CC me. We just call window.getAttention(), which *should* "just work". That it doesn't always is unfortunately not our fault.

Upgrading to a version of xulrunner (1.9a2pre/2007010808) that contains the fix for bug 361781 solved the problem for me.

FWIW, it looks like the fixes are also available in 1.8.1.3, which is available from the following directory:
