Same problem: I cannot save and cannot open an xls file. The Save File option is greyed out, I can only cancel.

I tried the solution given for Bug 322284: toggled browser.download.hide_plugins_without_extensions to false.

Indeed, in Preferences > Content > Manage a lot of new file types appeared, all with extension (NONE), but no xls, no doc. A lot of other extensions are missing too.

This problem did not always exist with Firefox, it appeard after an update.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to website
2. Try to download linked file
3. Download manager shows greyed out options except Cancel
Actual Results:  
Nothing, I can only cancel

Expected Results:  
Download the wanted file

Strange thing: when I looked up the link to make a screenshot, at first the Save File was not greyed out. After I closed the window containing the Save File option and clicked the download link again, it was greyed out, as shown in the picture.

While I had this window open to add the attachment, I tried it once more. Again, Save File was greyed out. As I stated before, the problem did not exist with Firefox in the past and Safari doesn't have this problem.
