Large slashdot discussions (with more than ~150 messages) causes firefox to hang (become unresponsive) and hog the CPU (1xCPU at 100%).

This is an indicative URL:
http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/10/1546223

You will need to check the "I am willing to help test" checkbox if it is not checked.

About one in 5 times when the browser crashes, it also makes the entire system unresponsive requiring me to reboot the computer.

I'm running a dual core with an nvidia gfx card and the "nview" system turned on.

I also filed a bug with the slashdot project on sourceforge:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=104421&aid=1632711&group_id=4421

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/10/1546223 or any other discussion that has a large number of articles (~150+).
2. Make sure you have "I am willing to help test" checkbox set.
3. Wait until page loads and browser becomes unresponsive.

Actual Results:
CPU usage spikes to 100% on one CPU and is no longer responsive.

Expected Results:
Should not use 100% of CPU and should be responsive.
Also, this happens on firefox 1.5 as well as 2.0.
if your system crashes, you'll get a blue screen, if you get a blue screen, there's also the option of the system dumping enough information for someone to find the faulty driver (hint: mozilla.org doesn't write or ship any drivers).

if you want this bug to focus on the performance/memory problems, please remove the crashes entire system line from the summary.

if you instead want tech support in finding your buggy driver, please re-summarize to include BSOD.
It's not a blue screen. It basically freezes the entire machine. One app that continues to run though is task manager bu windows explorer and any other application will freeze. So it's not a "crash" as in a kernel panic, it's more like the machine becomes totally unusable. It's not sluggish in the sense that apps run slower, they seem like they're stuck on some resource.
try this:
1. loading the page in ie.
2. save the page
3. run firefox
4. open task manager
5. select firefox
6. right click it
7. select go to process
8. right click the process
9. set prority>belownormal
10. ok
11. go back to firefox
12. open the page you saved using ie.

If firefox uses all of your cpu, then attach the file to this bug ("add an attachment").
Summary: Browser hogs CPU, becomes unresponsive and occasionally crashes the entire system → Browser hogs CPU, when visiting a page with lot sof form controlls
Whiteboard: DUPEME
btw, in case it doesn't follow, the reason that task manager is responsive is that it runs with a higher priority. unless you have a good reason to, you should consider always running firefox belownormal. if nothing else with a higher priority needs the system, then firefox will still get all of the cpu cycles.
