User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1

This appears to be an intermittent fault, but basically I can't rely on Firefox to allow me access to my Hotmail. IE7 works fine and I have to resort to that. I'm not a techie so I'm just stating my difficulties. I can't open individual emails in my Hotmail account. I click on them and nada, no egg timer nothing. I leave it to the programmers to analyse and find a solution. Meantime - back to IE7. Maybe Microsoft are screwing with the system?

hi, if you uninstall Firefox 2 and instead use Firefox 3 what happens?

I've been having the same problem. (Firefox v. 3.1b2)

Here is a more detailed description from a FF 3.5.7 user on Windows 7.
The problem arises for me when I log into hotmail using FF (but not IE8).
I get the normal Hotmail layout. At the top is a row of html links which
go to "Home", "Profile",...,"signout". All these links work fine so for
instance I can sign out of Hotmail fine.
Then below that are javascript links: "New", "Delete", ..., "print" (icon).
On the left is a column of javascript links which go to your folders, starting
with "Inbox". None of these links works. If I click on them, then nothing
happens. Also, if I click on messages in the inbox then these messages also
do not open.

Now as far as reproducibility. I have seen this on two different machines both
running FF 3.5.7, one is my laptop the other is my desktop. Both run an insane
number of extensions, of which one might suspect AdBlock and Ghostery the most.
However, uninstalling these extensions does not solve the problem. Starting FF
in safe mode does not solve the problem. And what's more, the problem appeared
suddenly. When I initially installed the browser and put in all the extensions
things worked fine. After some time (maybe a week or so) the problems started.
This is consistent on both machines. Also, I have used the FF on Windows 7
configuration on my laptop longer and I saw that sometimes randomly the ability
to access hotmail comes back but then goes away again.
Hope this helps someone reproduce the problem.
This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME

I do not know how you can read my bug report and not notice it was for Firefox 3.5.7. Not every user reporting here is clueless and whiny. Some of us have legitimate issues with specific well tested but intermittent bugs.
This specific bug has now been on my machine intermittently for all firefox versions between 3.5.7 and 3.6.3 inclusive. It does go away and reappear without any obvious correlation with anything else (yes i spent a lot of time thinking about what it could be).
This is not in any way resolved and definitely at times does not work for me. if anything I would bump priority on this bug because clearly it requires more user reports and thus more testing and higher profile.
@my_eaddress, you are not the original reporter of this bug. It was reported on 2.x, so, that is what I am treating it as. If the reporter still see it, then we can update it. Please Try a new profile for your issue.

I get this issue with the latest issue of Firefox. I have reported it in another thread so so far no resolution - not even a reply that I have seen.. It's been going in since January this year and happens on my Mac desktop and my PC laptop. It works fine on IE8. What is the reason for trying a new profile on this issue? Can it be resolved? Must I permanently switch to IE?

Bill Wright
Have you tried a new profile? There are not many users seeing this, which leads me to believe that it is an extension, setting, etc. Using a new profile will be using all firefox default, so then we can ensure that this is a firefox bug, and not something on your machine.

OK, it is quite apparent that no-one read my bug report. It says clearly:
"Starting FF in safe mode does not solve the problem. And what's more, the problem appeared suddenly. When I initially installed the browser and put in all the extensions things worked fine."
If the problem appears and disappears suddenly (with no extension changes or updates in between) and does not go away in safe mode then my guess would be that this has nothing to do with any extensions.
Since this is not a crash, I am not sure what information is available at runtime which I could forward to you guys but it's not like it is a rare thing. You may not get many bug reports but google for "firefox hotmail problems" and you will see a flood.

Just for the record: I appreciate that someone is finally paying attention at least even if it is for the wrong reasons (attempting to close a bug which should be a bit below "critical" as far as these things go). Thanks Tyler for a sign of life.
As I said, did you try a new profile? That is the important thing. I know you tried safe mode, so I'm asking for a new profile now.

my_eaddress@hotmail.com: please file your own bug, click "new" at the top of any page on bugzilla.mozilla.org.

Bill: i'd suggest you use https://support.mozilla.com/chat as Hotmail definitely works in general, if it didn't, we'd certainly have had many many more people complaining than we do. This suggests to me that there's something more interesting about your computer or profile, and the people who handle support are better equipped to handle such issues.

As you said you're using the latest firefox, i'm assuming you mean 3.6.3 and i've updated the bug to indicate that, however i'd appreciate it if you'd confirm this.

Very interesting. So I just had this happen to me today. I closed Firefox and opened it using -ProfileManager, created new profile and the problem went away. Curiously, when I then closed that session and opened Firefox with my default login the problem was also gone. All with the span of 5 minutes. No other apps running except antivirus. And yes, this is 3.6.3

One more piece of info. This has happened to me twice today now. The second time, switching to a debug profile has again taken care of the problem but killing that instance of FF and going back to main profile has not fixed the issue. The status bar just shows
javascript:;
and clicking those links again does nothing.

One more tidbit, this one bizzare. I have two hotmail accounts. One is showing this behavior the other does not (on FF but IE handles both fine). So could there be an account setting on MS end to make life miserable for FF users?

I had the same problem. When I did as you had written the problem disappeared. How strange. But thanks!

Please re-open.

Hotmail works in Windows XP, but, in Firefox, I can't
 . open emails, or
. select all emails in a folder,
 . get to "More options",
 . send emails I compose!!,
. check all emails in a folder at once.
-
I can select individual messages in my Inbox or Junk and delete them.
If I check the All box in Junk mail, none of the messages get
selected (checked).
-
The bottom left corner says "Loading...".
-
These are common to ALL my email accounts on my computer.
-
In Firefox I tried
 . clearing the Internet cache,
. deleting temporary Internet files, and I am
 . using HTTPS://,
. deleting all cookies and then re-starting Firefox and Hotmail.
 . changing my password.
-
I AM using the latest Firefox (version 18.01).
-
Nothing helps.
-
I tried:
1)
Options
More options
Customizing Hotmail
Flagging
Don't show flagged messages at the top of the inbox
Save
-
2)
Options
More options
Customizing Hotmail

Opened Firefox and Hotmail.
Still can open or send messages.
BUT SOMETHING I DID NOW LETS ME GET
-
  More options
in Firefox Hotmail!!!
-
Woops! Today 1/28/13 I cannot get "More options" again.
-
I have not tried
. using Firefox default Profile, whatever that is--
the procedure isn't simple and other threads say it didn't
    work for long--the problem re-surfaced after a few keystrokes;
-
. Firefox/Hotmail on another computer. (I only have one.)

I discovered Firefox's
Help | Restart with Add-ons Disabled

I have to do this at least the first time I open Firefox.
