In http://groups-beta.google.com/group/mozilla.governance/msg/863f89b4161b7514 Cédric Corazza suggests: It's a detail, but maybe replacing "open-source" with "libre software" or "free software" or "open source/free(or libre) software" will be more accurate as you can open your source code but can prevent to modify it for instance; that's not the case of the Mozilla project. (I'm also a localizer of the gnu.org site ;) ) (same for 'open-source' in all the Manifesto).
FWIW, the term "open source" is completely clear to me. I think modifying it would just make documents harder to read. Also, people who aren't intimately familiar with the world of open source have no idea what "libre software" means.
Blocks: manifesto
i disagree with this bug. libre is not in my lexicon, and i don't really care for free software.
I think the current wording is fine. Gerv
We expected broad discussion of the manifesto in many different forums, including this one. However, most discussions happened on the mozilla.governance list or were brought there. Closing the entire family of Manifesto bugs. The first version (oddly called 0.9) may be found at: http://www.mozilla.org/about/mozilla-manifesto.html
