Aaron said in bug 356190 comment 26: "I suggest that we check in this bug and open a new bug that does what you propose (allow for custom controls to ignore the simpleContent restriction). And then wait on that new bug until we see what the other processors decide to do or see if users write about wanting that capability on the newsgroup." bug 356190 brokes ability for custom controls authors to bind xforms elements defined by xforms specs to any content. I think it's fine feature to redefine behaviour for existing xforms controls.

Leigh wrote on NG: Output bound to SVG content nodes is the first case I've seen for this. With <output mediatype="text/html" .../> it's a plausable argument that the bound node would be an entity-escaped HTML text node. There is precedent for this feature from other XForms processors (formsplayer) and from the IETF Atom working group. However, with SVG, the story would seem to be more complicated and there's not a convenient MIME type you can pin the escaped version on... I almost wonder if an extension element or a new form control might be necessary. Leigh. So, at least I'm not alone.
