not a security issue.
You appear to be using a very old version of Firefox that is no longer supported. I recommend you update to Firefox 2.0.0.1 at http://www.mozilla.com/ and see if the behavior still exists.
Without an account at Scott Trade, it is difficult to determine the issue you are having. Moving this back out to Firefox:General until we know more.
You might try <http://forums.mozillazine.org/> for help in the support forums or the knowledge base <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Knowledge_Base>

Sorry, when i wrote the bug report I switched over to 1.0.7 and it performs reliabily. This is a problem specific to 2.0.0.1. Also I am using the latest Intell core 2 duo with a MacBook and system 10.4.8.

Can you please check with some other versions of Firefox to help us determine where and what changed?
You can find all previous releases at <http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/>. If you could check with at least Firefox 1.5.0.9 (and if that fails, 1.5.0.8) and Firefox 2.0 and see if you still see the same problem that would help out a great deal.

Actually, this sounds like one of the problems that was fixed by
version 0.9.6 of the Java Embedding Plugin (item #13 in the change log
posted at bug 364158).
Please download a recent mozilla1.8-branch Firefox nightly
(e.g. 2007-01-24-03-mozilla1.8) from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/ and let us know
your results.
(These "mozilla1.8" branch nightlies are preliminary releases of what
will become Firefox 2.0.0.1.)

This is a mass search for bugs that are in the Firefox General component, are UNCO, and have not been changed for 1000 days and have an unspecified version.
Reporter, can you please update to Firefox 3.6.10, create a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles, and test again. If you still see the bug, please update this bug. If the issue is gone, please set the resolution to RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.
