Does it work in -safe-mode? <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode>
Sorry I was gone for a couple of days. No it doesn't work in save mode either. Same thing, flashes the thunderbird desk top as if to start, then immediately shuts down.
Thunderbird just updated itself to 1.5.0.10 and I am also having the same problem. It happened directly after the install. Need to access my email!
yeah, I'd try uninstalling, then re-installing 1.5.0.10 from scratch, perhaps after rebooting
Was able to fix it by:

1) Rename my profile (to backup)
2) Create new profile
3) Close Thunderbird
4) Delete files in "Mail" folder in profile
5) Copy files in "Mail" folder from backup into new profile

Lost all my settings but at least my email is back.
Scratch that. It worked until I tried to check my email. Then started crashing again.
I uninstalled/reinstalled with the 1.5.0.10 setup file and created a fresh profile. It still crashed when I tried to start it up again.

I've reverted to 1.5.0.5 and it works fine. Seems the problem was introduced between 1.5.0.9 and 1.5.0.10. I initially thought something was corrupted in my settings but with it crashing without any modifications by myself I believe there is something wrong with the build.
did any talkback reports get sent? Or when you say crash, do you mean just shut down silently?
No reports were sent that I know of. I didn't install the QFA.
I guess it shut down silently, yes.
I had the same issue, see Bug 315224. I have QFA installed, the process disappears without a trace.
nick, this does, or does not, happen for you with v1.5.0.9? does it happen with a trunk build? http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
