I can confirm this. This problem has been around for a while.
My wife just installed firefox, and we're having the same problem. We have a synaptics pointing device v.7.12.13 07Jan05. Is there a fix for this bug yet? If so, how do I find it?
makes this browser seem to be a poor choice on a top of the line laptop without synaptics touchpad support for the scrollbar. is this fixable?

I have Compaq Presario notebook dual booting Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP. I can use the vertical scroller on Linux on the touchpad but not on Windows on the same machine.

This problem now seems to have been fixed. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it was the latest Synaptics driver or the latest version of Firefox that did this, because the only reason I tried to scroll was because I'd been using Linux for a while (where scrolling has always worked) and I came back to Windows and it worked!
Anyway, I can confirm that scrolling does work on my Acer Aspire 1642WLMi (Win XP Home SP2) with Synaptics driver v10.1.8 (from www.synaptics.com) and Firefox 2.0.0.11.

I already had Firefox 2.0.0.11 installed and it didn't work. I updated to the latest Synaptics driver (v10.1.8) and that fixed the problem. I recommend that this be closed as WORKSFORME.
