The :first-letter pseudo-class now generates a block-like anonymous box, the first letter is displayed on a separate line.
(It is a bit similar to the problem noted in bug 368622).
Regressed between 2007012704 and 2007012804 builds
bug 9458 or one of the other related checkins.
I can confirm I've seen it in the wild:

Curiously enough, it doesn't happen with every paragraph.

As of
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a6pre) Gecko/20070603 Minefield/3.0a6pre
neither the original test case nor the linked page show this problem. I guess this bug can be marked resolved-fixed.

Hmm, the behaviour changed indeed [1]. However, it is not yet quite correct.
The testcase here shows an unnecessary horizontal scrollbar at certain window widths, at least on my Mac, with the 20070604 build
[1] A quick test shows that this changed
between 20070520 Minefield/3.0a5pre and 20070521 Minefield/3.0a5pre
maybe bug 45631 affected this ?

Yeah, I'm seeing that too. This testcase shows that bug.

This appears to be fixed:
fails in the 20070718_2157 Mac build
works with the 20070718_2126 Mac build
--> fixed by bug 381703
