This smacks of a Gmail bug. Does it happen with Firefox, too? cl

Nope, doesn't happen in FireFox. I'm running version 2.0.0.1.

Just found out that this doesn't happen in Camino if you click the "Pop In" button on the chat window. It ONLY happens if you close the window with File > Close Window or File > Close Tab.

I have a suspicion about what's going on here (I think we aren't triggering unload actions when closing a tab); I'll look into it.

It's actually the onbeforeunload that should be catching that, so this is a dup of bug 370096.
