Since Firefox 2, there are several problems with dialog boxes not being modal.

The latest one occurs when starting Firefox with several pages in the session to restore.

As soon as I get a dialog box (the one that seems to trigger it is a warning about the site's name not matching the certificate's name), all pages stop loading. Even after clicking OK on the dialog box, several tabs (presumably any that haven't yet loaded before the SSL warning dialog) never finish loading. They sit there perpetually with the tab's title showing "Loading".

I am also using an authenticating proxy.
The exact title of the dialog box is "Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch".
I can confirm this on WinXP, without using a proxy.

Reproduction steps:

1) Open a site which generates an https security warning due to a mismatched/expired certificate.

2) Open a few other pages in new tabs.

3) Use the Task Manager to kill the browser.

4) Reopen the browser.

5) Tell it to restore the session.

The Security Error dialog appears. Regardless of the user response, the pages in the other tabs are never loaded.
Please indicate an URL which produces a "Domain Name Mismatch" error or causes the symptoms described in this bug in any other way, so that this issue can easily be reproduced by QA.
I no longer have access to the proxy I was using, so can't try to reproduce it in the original way.

Since Scott (c2) mentions it happens without a proxy, here's a couple of URLs:
Domain Name Mismatch: https://webmail.leighmardon.com.au
Unknown Authority: https://mail.endbracket.net
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725

Created a clean profile, loaded half a dozen sites, one of them https://webmail.leighmardon.com.au/ , waited several seconds so that SessionStore had the time to write the URLs to disk, crashed Firefox, resumed the session, waited a few seconds at the "Domain Name Mismatch" prompt, confirmed it... and wasn't able to reproduce the described behavior. What's the missing StR?

Revised and narrowed test case (WinXP).

The missing step appears to be that you need a second window open, and it has to have multiple tabs.

Reproduction steps:
1) Open two browser windows, each with multiple (I used 3) tabs.

1) Open one tab to a site which generates an https security warning due to a
mismatched/expired certificate. Accept that certificate temporarily.

2) Open the other tabs to other pages.

3) Use the Task Manager to kill the browser.

4) Reopen the browser.

5) Tell it to restore the session.

The Security Error dialog appears. Regardless of the user response, hanging will occur in all but one of the tabs in the window not containing the tab viewing the secure site.
Still not able to reproduce the issue.

1. Can you confirm this issue on a clean profile (see <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager> for how to create one)?
2. If so, does the Error console remain empty after having set javascript.options.showInConsole to true in about:config?

Should the answers be "yes" to both questions, I'll have to leave it to our QA team to try to verify the issue.

Closing as INVALID since the SSL warning dialog has been removed in Firefox 3.0 (we now use non-modal error pages instead).
