Dear Sirs,

I have just downloaded Thunderbird version 2 beta 2 (20070116)hoping that the problem with marking incoming messages or messages in any folder as read it would be solved. 

To my surprise it has not been solved. I went to Tools | Options... | Advanced | General and option Wait ... seconds before marking a message as read was checked. OK, I unchecked it pressed the <OK> button and tried for one more time to see what the result would be. To my surprise it did not work this time too. Then I decided to close Thunderbird and lunch it for one more time. No luck.

Can this parameter be fixed? If it is unchecked not to mark messages as read, that is, NOT to "un-bold" Sender, Recipient, Subject, Date, etc. when I click on it or when scrolling with the arrow keys up and down the list of messages, but "un-bold" it only when I double click on it or if I mark it as read.

Actual Results:  
Just go in any list of message, inbox or local folders and scroll up or down the list of message one by one with the arrow keys and you should notice that the message where the selection bar is will automatically "un-bold"

Expected Results:  
Messages that are marked as un-read are immediately marked as read

The software should act accordingly when the option under Tools | Options... | Advanced | General, Wait ... seconds before marking a message as read is checked or unchecked.

version 2 beta 2 (20070116) but it also exists in previous versions of Thunderbird

Hello,

I have just sent you an e-mail, since just a while ago I got a message from someone [e-mail] (Wayne Mery) asking why I have not answered back to your reply.

In case you don't get my e-mail, I have to say that the problem still persists even under vesrion 2.0.0.6 (20070728) of Thunderbird. 

I think the problem is simple, if the check box next to "Wait" parameter is left unckecked then leave the info in bold otherwise just set off a timer according to the parameter value.

Ah, I just realized what you mean. Bug 297534, no? Currently there is no good way to do it, you can use a large value though (not too large, otherwise the integer will wrap over...)

I agree, this is bug 297534.  Marking this as a dupe of it.

Theodore, I am going to add our new User Interface specialist to that bug since a lot of the issue is a feature decision involving UI that could use some attention.
