When you setup up a proxy.pac file there is no feedback that the file is actually being loaded. if i press the reload button in the network settings menu next to the proxy.pac adress it gives no indication that this actually worked.
i think a lot of users will have less to complain about proxy.pac if it actually reported being loaded. I myself mistyped the url ( my bad ofcourse ) and it took me awhile to figure out i mistyped it. if it said could not load or anything then this problem would be over in seconds. This is not really a bug but more a "making it more user friendly" type of thing.
i would like to see a small piece of text below the rule saying that it loaded the file ( or cannot load file error ) and the date that it last loaded it. when pressing the reload button it should update of course.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Edit -> Preferences
2.Advanced tab - Network
3.Section: Connection -> Settings
4.mistype a url or place where proxy.pac should be and press reload.
Actual Results:
Watch firefox silently continue, without error that file could not be loaded.
Expected Results:
Give a error of the file could not be loaded or location could not be reached.
bonus would be that it also gave the time that it last loaded it.
i did a dupe search but i could not find anything related although i have the idea that is is a know thing
Summary: No feedback when using proxy.pac. No idication that the file is loaded. → No feedback when using proxy.pac. No indication that the file is loaded.

Dupe of bug 90308 ?
Component: Build Config → Networking
Product: Firefox → Core
QA Contact: build.config → networking
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Yes i believe so although the last update was in 2005.
The only thing i am requesting is that when you press the reload button it gives a error. I can see that there are users that use the proxy.pac at their work place and direct Internet at home. so i would at least like it to be able to validate that firefox can read/find the proxy.pac file.
This other bug 90308 seems to be last updated in 2005 and in my current version i still do not get any feedback. Please note i do not ask for the file to be parsed and checked for errors. I only want it to say that it can or has read the file.

2005 is not old, we have much older open and still valid bugs.
We only want one bug report about one issue in the database and that is also the reason why a report has to check for existing bugs before he creates a new one.
Look at the Status of a bug to see if a bug is already fixed, the status of bug 90308 is "new" and that means that the bug is still open. the status "fixed" means that a bug is fixed in the source.
