User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/20070207 Minefield/3.0a3pre
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/20070207 Minefield/3.0a3pre

I updated Minefield to the latest nightly using the automatic update, pressed the button to restart it and it restarted showing the URI <http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0a3pre/whatsnew/>. But that page is 404.

Reproducible: Always

It would be cool if mozilla.org had some magic way of noticing when a Mozilla-distributed browser were automatically accessing a page on the site, and then could automatically file bug reports or something when the page isn't there.
Based on what happened for 3.0a2pre, this will be a WONTFIX.
Component: Build Config → www.mozilla.org
OS: Windows XP → All
Product: Firefox → mozilla.org
QA Contact: build.config → www-mozilla-org
Hardware: PC → All
Version: unspecified → other
This also happens for the alpha 4 release. <http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0a4pre/whatsnew/>.

If the Mozilla website admins don't intend to put a web page there, it might be better to disable the startup page altogether for alpha releases.
Ed, the 404 only applies to nightlies, which carry the pre suffix on the version. The 3.0a3 release page
  http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0a3/whatsnew/
works just fine, and the 3.0a4 one will be created when that release happens.
