Danish localization of messages.po

Should the four thtml pages also be localized by now?

Which "four thtml pages" ?
Assignee: nobody → clouserw

Ah, after a quick discussion, I think you're talking about the pages in /en_US/pages/. If so, there are two that are ready to translate:

http://svn.mozilla.org/addons/trunk/site/app/locale/en_US/pages/sandbox.thtml
http://svn.mozilla.org/addons/trunk/site/app/locale/en_US/pages/error404.thtml

More info on localizing the sandbox.thtml is here: http://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Shaver/Remora_Categories

If you have additional time, we could use translations of the categories and add-on types from here:

http://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Shaver/Remora_Categories

They are "dynamic data" and we don't have a good way of putting them into the database right now, so if you just attach a text file here with the translations, I can put them in manually.
The .po file is live on preview:

https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/da/firefox/

Thanks.

I found some problems on the page that i don't know what to do about:

* Month names are in English
* English texts "Install dictionary" and "Install" on the dictionary page
* English dictionary is default
* The line with the Danish dictionary lists "danish | danish | Install (432 KB)" it should be "Danish | Dansk (da) | Installer (432 KB)"
* On plugins page: Acrobat Reader -> Mac OS X, "Unsupported" is in English
* The Thunderbird dictionary page lists dictionaries for 2.0. But it is not released yet.
* On Browse -> Extensions the title "Browse Extensions by Category" should be translated to "Gennemse udvidelser efter kategori" (note that "udvidelser" use a lowercase u)
* Is it possible for the preview site to send confirmation mail? I don't get any mail. I would like so see what the page looks like, if you are logged in.
* You have added my bugmail to some sort of mail list. Please be aware, that if i should be able so send mails to this list, i will send them from: mail at jesperkristensen dot dk, not bugzilla at jesperkristensen dot dk.
* There is no info on sandbox.thtml on the page you linked to

This is in the trunk, too, r2190. Thanks!
Jesper: Regarding your question about the un-localized month names, we are now using PHP's strftime() function instead of date() so that the localizers don't have to give us a custom time format anymore, and also now the time format is correctly localized.
Which of these is most up to date and are anyone of them always up to date with trunk?

http://remora.stage.mozilla.com/
https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/

Are there more preview sites?
http://remora.stage.mozilla.com is always up to date with trunk (3 or 5 minute syncs, I think)

https://preview.addons.mozilla.org is our production tag.

There is an error on http://remora.stage.mozilla.com/da/firefox/browse/type:1

The title is:

It should be:

Category 72: Someone put two extra J in the end of the category name. Please remove.

That string is meant to be a title for the page, so we we're expecting all the important words to be capitalized (In English, that means capitalizing "Category" as well). Would that be inappropriate in Danish? (The line in the .po is 146)

That would indeed be inappropriate in Danish. Only the first letter of the first word in a sentence (and the fist letter of nouns and abbreviations) is capitalized, title or not. To capitalize all important words is just incorrect. As far as I have seen, the word from the database is not used as the first word in a sentence anywhere, because the menu item text comes from the .po file. So for Danish removing the capitalization would work.

BTW, it is not good i18n practice to re-use a string in different places.
Replace "nouns" with "names" in my previous comment.
Ok, I'll remove capitalization for "udvidelse", "udvidelser", "tema", and "temaer"
My Accept Languages is: (1) da (2) en-us (3) en, but remora choose German (de) as default. It worked fine earlier.

remora.stage isn't updating automatically anymore, which is why it's not there yet.

devcp_* and editors_* not localized. Are partial localization like this ok with you?

There are a couple of more files in en-US. Do you have any idea when those are ready for l10n?

Do you have any news on the problems on the dictionary page mentioned in bug 370751 ?

They aren't ideal, but we're not rejecting the translations if they aren't complete. Since they weren't available until recently, it's kind of unfair to expect that fast of a turnaround. Of course, I support getting them translated soon though. :)

If you're talking about the files in
http://svn.mozilla.org/addons/trunk/site/app/locale/en_US/pages/ , then they are all ready for translation (except for privacy.thtml - we're not accepting translations of that at this point in time). If you're talking about different pages, please specify.

> Do you have any news on the problems on the dictionary page mentioned in bug
> 370751 ?

Any news/updates will be added to that bug.

Thanks.

I can see that you renamed "user_email_confirm_account" to "user_email_confirm_account_nopass" in the en_US po file.

In the Danish po file, you removed the translation and inserted the English text.

What was wrong in the danish text? The English text hasn't changed. If you think the translation of the email wasn't appropriate, please let me know what should be changed.
Oops, apologies. I changed all the locales that were up to date already; at least I thought I did. Turns out, I forgot Danish.

If you have an updated .po file with changes I have to make, please re-enable the tag you mentioned (and remove the English one); or if this is the only change, please let me know and I do it myself.

Thanks.
This is the only change.

Update is in svn, r

When I tried to compile it, I got:

I tweaked the .po and the version in SVN has those errors fixed.

I'm also reassigning this bug to you to be consistent with the other bugs and more accurate overall. AMO devs will still get email when the bug is changed.

One string changed
Attachment #261980 - Attachment is obsolete: true
in svn, r3455
Revision: 3463 and 3466
Author: fligtar@gmail.com
Message: updated .mo's and .po's

You added some strings and marked them fuzzy. All added strings are in parts not localized into Danish, so you can remove the fuzzy tags in the Danish .po file if you like.

You also messed up the line breaks in the file (revision 3463). It is much harder to localize the file if you constantly move things around, so that they aren't in the same place as in the English file. Please either update the Danish file, so that it matches the English file, or don't update it at all. If you have some automated tools that messes up the files, please exclude the Danish .po file, and I will keep it updated myself.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Actually, they are marked fuzzy so you can find them. We had multiple localizers complain that they can't easily distinguish new strings if we don't mark them fuzzy.

Also, the files are sorted by alphabet so that you can easily find strings you are searching for. The line numbers will naturally differ from the English file (because some translations will always be shorter or longer in different languages), but the order will stay the same.

Does this help?
It is not a big problem, but it would still be nice if the line breaks and sorting order could stay the way I put them.
Hi,

This is just a friendly reminder that I'm sending to all the AMO L10n bugs:

The 3.2 redesign is going live in just over a week and a half. If you can't make the schedule or you have any questions please let me know. If you've already updated your locales, thanks so much - they're looking great. :)
I am going to do the late-changes in the weekend.

Statistics are not translated yet. I would like to know how many addons are likely to make their stats public before using time on translating that section.

English fallback won't work for the statistics strings. If someone browses the site in the da locale and looks at the pages, all they'll see is a bunch of placeholders. :(

That sounds strange, because I have copied the English strings into my .po file.

I might translate the strings at some time later, but I don't have time now, and the time I have for Mozilla is going to Firefox 3.

Ah, as long as they aren't marked fuzzy that will work then. And thanks for working on Firefox 3. I know you guys put a bunch of effort in last weekend and that was awesome. :)
https://addons.mozilla.org/da/firefox/statistics/addon/2313

Some strings appear as "statistics_title_addon_stats", "statistics_summary_downloads_total_sincedate", etc.

They exist in the .po file (Through not translated), and they are not marked fuzzy. Why don't they show up on the live site?
I forgot to svn update before checking.

I can see they were marked fuzzy by someone other than me on 2008-03-19. Can you please tell me when you do such things? Wasn't such changes supposed to be announced in mozilla.dev.l10n.web?

And why are they marked fuzzy? The only change in en-US is the addition of three strings: app_compat_older_firefox_only, app_compat_try_old_version and app_compat_update_firefox. These changes seems to have nothing to do with the statistics strings.

I have updated the .po file and added the three missing strings. I hope it can be pushed live soon.
I updated category names a little more than an hour ago. When will the change become visible on the site?

Are the category descriptions used anymore? I cannot find them on the site.

Fred made a couple changes on that day, but I'm not sure what. You are correct that any string changes should be announced on dev-l10n-web.

> And why are they marked fuzzy?

I backed out some fuzzy flags in the revision after Fred because xgettext seems to mark any php-format string without placeholders in it as fuzzy. Not ideal for our situation.

The file is a bit out of date on the live site. Unfortunately, our schedule got bumped due to the holiday so we're still a week away from it going live. I posted about it here: http://blog.mozilla.com/webdev/2008/05/23/amo-343-update-scheduled-for-june-5th/

Mass-close of L10n bugs. We're using the newsgroups to notify localizers about updates so there isn't much of a reason to leave these open. If you have a specific case, feel free to reopen.

Thanks for all your help! :)
