User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 I have newly-installed (twice) Adobe Acrobat 8.0 reader, and Firefox 2.0.0.1, and I am unable to view many PDFs within the browser, in spite of the fact that the Reader is registered as the default application for PDF files. I get a message to download the missing plug-in, which leads me to the Adobe download site. But I already have the plug-in! So I have no workaround, and reinstalling Acrobat does not solve the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.In Firefox 2.0.0.1, navigate to http://gostanford.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/07-ncaa-regional-tickets.html 2. Click on the link: "To download the order form to purchase single session group tickets (10 or more people), click here." 3. The link should take you to the page in the attached screenshot, where the problem occurs. Actual Results: 1. Yellow bar appears at top with message: "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page," accompanied by the button, "Install Missing Plugins." 2. The actual page has a box in the middle, where a PDF should display in the Adobe Acrobat 8.0 plugin. Instead, I see a puzzle icon, and the message, "Click here to download plugin." 3. Whether I click on the button in the yellow bar or the puzzle icon, I am taken to the Plugin Finder Service dialogue box, which states that a plugin has been found: Adobe Acrobat Plug-in. 4. I click "Next" to install, but I get the message that this plugin is NOT AVAILABLE, a "Manual Install" button which simply takes me to the Adobe download page, and the Finish button. Expected Results: My existing install of Adobe Acrobat 8.0 should have been recognized, and the PDF file displayed immediately within Firefox, on the page: http://www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/stan/sports/w-baskbl/auto_pdf/07-reg-GroupTicketOrder about:plugins does not display any plugin for Adobe Acrobat! about:buildconfig gives me the following information: Build platform target i586-pc-msvc Build tools Compiler Version Compiler flags $(CYGWIN_WRAPPER) cl 12.00.8804 -TC -nologo -W3 -Gy -Fd$(PDBFILE) $(CYGWIN_WRAPPER) cl 12.00.8804 -TP -nologo -W3 -Gy -Fd$(PDBFILE) Configure arguments --enable-application=browser --enable-update-channel=release --enable-official-branding --enable-optimize --disable-debug --disable-tests --enable-static --disable-shared --enable-svg --enable-canvas --enable-update-packaging Using Windows XP SP-2 on an IBM (Lenovo) Thinkpad T-42.
Works for me on two separate computers with Adobe reader 8 - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/20070212 Minefield/3.0a3pre
More info: on the page where the error occurs, there is also a link above the PDF viewer box called "Complete Version." When I click on this link, I expect to be taken to: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/stan/sports/w-baskbl/auto_pdf/07-reg-GroupTicketOrder.pdf Instead, I see the downloads window flash up for a fraction of a second (trying to download the target PDF file, I suppose), then get the following error message popping up in a separate dialogue box: "Acrobat failed to load its core DLL."
I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling reader.
I don't remember what resolved this issue -- it's been a while. But along the way, I did reinstall Acrobat 8 and upgraded my Firefox version, so I figure one of these things had an impact.
