User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: version 2 beta 2 (20070116)
In the 3-pane window, Thunderbird shortens subjects that are too long to fit on the screen.
With left-to-right scripts, it does it this way:
Re: Abcdefghij -> Re: Abcde...
With right-to-left scripts, it clips on the left side, but adds the "..." at the right (i.e. wrong) side.
Re: jihgfedcbA -> Re: edcbA...
(I don't speak any right-to-left language, but I'm pretty sure that the sign indicating an ellipsis should be placed at the point where letters are left out.)
Re: jihgfedcbA -> Re: ...edcbA
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Subscribe to any right-to-left newsgroup (keyword "arabic")
2. List the messages in the 3-pane-window
3. Change the size of the Subject column
4. Watch the subjects, watch where letters are left out.
Actual Results:
Letters are left out at the left side, but indicating that "..." are added to the right.
Expected Results:
"..." should be inserted at the point where letters are left out.

Reporter, does this still occur in the latest 2.0.0.x / trunk nightlies?

This does occurs with English-interface TB 2.0.0.14, but I'm not 100% sure this is invalid behavior.

Ah, but it happens with the Hebrew, RTLy, interface, and that's not acceptable. However, this can be attributed to the fact that the message list is not RTL-aligned even when the rest of the interface is.

Looking at the issues, this sounds like it could be an XUL problem.

Marking this as a duplicate of 860511, though this bug is earlier, 860511 has a simplified test case that might be useful.

This is NOT a duplicate of bug 860511. Looking at the attachment there <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=736004>, the ellipsis ("...") is put at the truncated side for firefox. Compare that with the attachment I created. There, the ellispsis ("...") is not at the truncated side of the text.
