User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Build Identifier: 1.5.0.9 I am using 1.5.0.9 on XPpro with cable internet connection wireless in my home. I occasionally get outage blinks in service. tbird does not seem to re-connect correctly automatically. sometimes I can still get new mail, but fails to connect to send replies until I completely close and reboot my pc. just closing and re-starting tbird has no effect, but reboot fixes it every time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.internet connection blinks 2.tbird can no longer connect to incoming mail server sometimes 3.fails to re-connect to outgoing smtp server almost always after a blink Expected Results: I would expect automatic re-connection after network blinks
Dan this hsould be fixed. do you see this problem in version 2.0.0.14?

I am now running 2.0.0.14 , and the issue does still occur. For whatever reason Comcast seems to 'blink' at about 8-9am on a regular basis in my area. My connection looks connected, but cannot find the server until I reboot. I can refresh the connection sometimes, but that doesn't seem to work. Its acts like Thinderbird still is looking at an orphaned connection rather than the live one.
David, smtp log sufficient? bug 420139 is another (unconfirmed) comcast issue - but prob. not same.

Dan, if you have to reboot, my first guess is the problem is NOT thunderbird. does firefox show the same issue? can you try *beta 2* when it comes out in a few weeks, and comment in the bug? (or beta 1 now, and beta 2 later if 1 fails)

I am currently using Firefox v 3.0.6 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.19 , still on same laptop running windows xp pro and still having the same issues from home when connected wireless via comcast. several times per day I am suddenly unable to connect to any server, but my network connection appears fine, and lights on modem appear happy. I can even 'repair' the connection, but to no avail. I cannot do anything until I restart the computer. I SUSPECT that after a significant blink, I get assigned a new dynamic IP from comcast, and FireFox/ThunderBird are still trying to use the old one.....
Dan, thanksf or the feedback. Repeat: - does firefox show the same problem? - can you try Thunderbird beta? (it has fixes for some network issues) http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/early_releases/ (backup your thunderbird profile before using)
nb comment 6 Dan, it would be good for you to test this in two weeks either in beta or nightly* If it's not already fixed, perhaps you are seeing something like Bug 500416 going offline can hang imap connections * ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/
